Fizz Friday: Global Champagne Day 2015

October 23, 2015 by The Bubbleista

Champagne Day ecard

Yes it’s Fizz Friday, but did you also know that today is Global Champagne Day, my dears?! While it’s true that a real Bubbleista never really needs a special holiday to pop the cork on a bottle of champagne, Global Champagne Day is a wonderful reason to have for raising a glass {or three} in festive celebration.

Created just a few years ago, Global Champagne Day has been gaining momentum through the power of social media. Events are around organized around the world with bubbly lovers being invited to participate through Twitter, MeetUp, Facebook, and Instagram as well as celebrating in person at bars and restaurants that are hosting special events.

Since it is imperative that we “fizz fiends” commemorate this auspicious and very important occasion, with the help of The Champagne Bureau I’m highlighting some of the Champagne Day events happening around the globe to ensure everyone has a chance to get in on the effervescent festivities:

A STK CHAMPAGNE TOAST FROM COAST TO COAST

From LA to NYC, STK Steakhouse has got you covered for Global Champagne Day with a couple of cool “happenings:” (1) First, for any guests dining at any of their locations across the globe {Atlanta; Chicago; Las Vegas; London; Los Angeles; Miami; Milan; New York; and Washington DC} who are in the restaurant at 10:23 pm STK will gift them with a complimentary glass of Champagne to commemorate the occasion, no strings attached; and (2) if you want to up the ante, they are also offering an exquisite special champagne flight for $125 throughout the evening featuring all of these luscious bubbles:

  • Chandon Rosé
  • Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut
  • Moët Rosé
  • Dom Pérignon

If this doesn’t get you in the Global Champagne Day spirit, I don’t know what will!

CHAMPAGNE DOWN UNDER

Champagne is quite popular in Australia so it’s no surprise that Aussies are jumping in on the fun by hosting some events to celebrate GCD.

Ananas Bar & Brasserie

Ananas is offering a 2 course express lunch with glass of Marc Champagne for $50 or 3 courses for $60 and magnums of Moët & Chandon Brut Impérial at the special price of $150 {!} in the bar from 4-7p. For reservations, click here.

The Champagne Dame

My Australian champagne sister Kyla Kirkpatrick is hosting a Global Champagne Day event on October 24th called “Young Guns of Champagne” in Sydney where the bubbly that is tasted with show “what the new generations in champagne are doing.”

HOW ‘BOUT A TASTE

Champs pouring in glasses

If you’re looking to do a little experimenting and learning, then this is the list for you! These locations are hosting champagne tastings and classes.

Flute Bar: “On Champagne Day, Flute Bar in NYC will be hosting a “Magic Flûte” tasting of 3 oz of Champagne! Additionally, the staff will be giving a mini one on one ‘Champagne school’ to anybody who takes part in the tasting.”

Savi Provisions: Savi bills itself as a “purveyor of  organic foods, fine wines, and spirits,” but it’s the retailer’s tasting room in the Buckhead section of Atlanta that will see the Global Champagne Day action. For only $30 from 7pm-9pm, participants can enjoy a “unique” Champagne tasting.

Yindee: This Thai & Japanese restaurant is in Chicago is hosting a fun champagne class/tasting and dinner from 6:30pm to 8:30pm

Left Coast Cellars: This winery in Oregon is doing something really specil in celebration of Global Champagne Day: they will be popping the cork on their “debut méthode traditionelle 2011 Blanc de Noir sparkling wine [which is] hand riddled” in their cellar. Riddling is a traditional, labor intensive practice used by producers in Champagne, France.

If I was anywhere near Rickreall {about an hour outside of Portland} I would be all over this unique tasting opportunity!

No matter whether you decide to celebrate at a hosted event; at your favorite wine bar; or with a bottle from your stash at home make sure you share your photos, tasting notes, experiences, and videos on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram–using the hashtag #ChampagneDay, of course!–so everyone around the globe can share in the Global Champagne Day fun!

Everybody loves a good dinner party, but not everybody loves doing everything it takes to host a good dinner party. But I had NO idea […]

Saturday is {yet another} “wine holiday,” so I thought what better reason to provide you with some of my special brand of #EffervescentEducation than giving you the lowdown on the sparkling wine you should be drinking right now: Lambrusco! Some folks of a certain age may instantly cringe and shudder just seeing the word “Lambrusco.” It’s understandable, though, […]
